5 Ways to Burn Off Thanksgiving Dinner Calories
With mashed potatoes, stuffing, pies and other desserts around, it’s easy to overdo it on Thanksgiving. If you end up eating more than you planned, there are several ways to burn off those extra calories and avoid putting on weight during the holiday season.
Walk It Off
Go for a brisk walk after filling up on Thanksgiving. In addition to getting rid of calories, you’ll also get a chance to enjoy some fresh autumn air. Aim to walk for 15 to 30 minutes after eating if possible to burn roughly 100 calories, or plan to go walking the next morning. You can also go running or jogging the next day to burn off additional calories.
Lifting weights can help you lose excess calories, and it’s a relatively easy activity to do. Grab a pair of dumbbells, and lift for about 30 minutes to burn off 100 calories. You can do this while chatting with relatives after dinner, or wait until you’re back home.
Doing push-ups gives you a more challenging way to burn Thanksgiving calories while also strengthening your arm muscles. Aim to do three sets of 20 push-ups, and you’ll end up burning off roughly 35 calories.
Yoga might seem like a calm way to exercise, but it can help you burn off a surprising number of calories. Doing yoga moves for about one hour can help you lose around 300 calories. That’s about how many calories you’ll find in one slice of pumpkin pie.
For a fun way to work out after Thanksgiving dinner, consider doing some dancing. Put on your favorite tunes, and dance for about 15 minutes to burn roughly 70 calories. You’ll help keep off extra weight gain while enjoying yourself.
